Across the world, urbanization has created and redefined the concept of citizenship. Often in the process of this re-definition, new formations and identities emerge not only in cooperative forms but in conflictual patterns. Federal Polytechnic Oko has launched its gigantic digital Library:
A Digital Library (also referred to as a digital repository) is a special library with a focused collection of digital objects which include texts, visual materials, audio materials stored as electronic media (as opposed to print, microform, or other media), along with means for organizing, storing, and retrieving the files and media contained in the library collection. Digital libraries can vary immensely in size and scope, and can be maintained by individuals, organizations, or affiliated with established physical library buildings or academic institutions. The electronic content may be stored locally, or accessed remotely via computer networks. Of course, the concept of digital library has multiple senses that one might invoke in various contexts. For example, the concept may refer simply to the notion of collection without reference to organization, intellectual accessibility or service attributes. This extended sense seems to be in play, for example, when we hear the World Wide Web described as a digital library.
On the Internet, the use of a digital library is enhanced by a broadband connection such as cable modem or DSL. Dial-up connections can be used to access plain-text documents and some documents containing images, but for complex files and those with animated video content, a downstream data speed of at least several hundred kilobits per second ( Kbps ) can make the user's experience less tedious, as well as more informative. Internet-based digital libraries can be updated on a daily basis. This is one of the greatest assets of this emerging technology. With this in place, why should a student complain of lacking cognition to make Distinctions.
One thing is knowing about the digi-Lib as i prefer to call it, another thing is knowing how to use the library so that you would be able to appreciate the management.

Federal Polytechnic Rector eulogizes TETFUND Project

The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Prof. Godwin Onuh, has described TETFund as one of the most important thing that has happened to the country's education sector. Onu said without interventions from TETFund, most public tertiary institutions in the country would have been in a state of stagnation.
The rector who disclosed this in an interview with journalists who were on tour of TETFund's intervention projects in the institution, explained that the prompt release of intervention funds for the building of well-stocked libraries, classrooms and well equipped libraries have no doubt made learning more meaningful and conducive for students in the ivory tower across the country.
His words: "TETFund is one of the most important things that has happened to this country, especially in the education sector. I want to say that without TETFund intervention, most higher institutions would have been in doldrums. The establishment of TETFund is a well-thought out initiative that has impacted tremendously on the education sector, both in quantity and quality. Onu stated that most infrastructures in the school were courtesy of various TETFunds' interventions. "For the Federal Polytechnic Oko, a lot of achievements are attributable to the funding that has come from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). We are really pleased and happy with the disposition of the executive secretaries that have been there, and the one that is still there, and also the friendly disposition of staff of TETFund, which has impacted on instant and quick releases of funds for payment of these projects. When you go round, you will see a lot that is going on here, and I am sure that it is not only in this institution, but also some other tertiary institutions." The rector noted that many lecturers in the polytechnic have benefited from the agency's capacity building initiative. "Many of my staff are enjoying various scholarships schemes, some are in India; at least I count seven of them in various Indian universities courtesy of TETFund. One of them has obtained his Ph.D from the University of Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa and he has come back. Others are still undergoing various Ph.D programmes, while some are masters' degree programmes. Some are in the United Kingdom, others in the United States and other parts of the world as well as across Nigeria.
"Many of my staff have equally benefited from TETFund's book development project, and the same thing with research funds. Recently, I approved payments for some of them that got their research proposals approved by TETFund.
Onu added, "Among all the sources of interventions, TETFund has been very tremendous, other ones are just a drop in the ocean, but TETFUND has impacted heavily and fundamentally in the education development of this institution and I am sure it is the same thing in other institutions in the country.

OUTSMARTING OTHER INSTITUTIONS IN ICT INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT

Information and communications Technology (ICT) has become a key tool in acquiring, processing and disengaging knowledge. It has become an imperative tool for investment and development of nations in 21^st century. The revolutionary impact of ICT on all spheres of the society has not spared the educational sector. The production and use of new knowledge require a more ICT educated population. ICT is therefore, playing a major role in the acquisition and diffusion of knowledge which are fundamental aspects of the educational process. The availability of the internet has given rise to an electronic approach to the educational system called e-learning. Tertiary educational institutions have always been at the quest for a new scientific discoveries and innovations brought about by the activities of teaching, learning and research. This is why Federal Polytechnic Oko has placed ICT at a prime point in Knowledge delivery. Apart from ICT infrastructures which have been put in place by the present Administration lead by Prof.Godwin Onu, education technological tools have been procured in its maximum. This is why the equipped students can comfortably write their examinations, using computers. This E-examination has helped so much in ameliorating, if not completely eliminating examination malpractices and Lecturers-Students’ result maneuverings in the school. The polytechnic under the watch of Prof.Godwin Onu, can now comfortably boast of a gigantic and secured institutional database that runs on cloud, unlike its counterparts within and outside Nigeria. Also, administrative and research activities in the polytechnic is gearing towards the zenith of uniqueness as research infrastructures are taking more eulogistic shapes to outsmart what could be gotten in any institution across Nigeria. Such infrastructures include; Personal computers, specialized software, interactive volute boards, internet, intranet and visual library. The Polytechnic also has started working on plans to intensify computer trainings for new students on how to use the computer systems to answer examination questions. This will not only prepare our students for the challenges of using computers to write their semester examinations but also prepare them for related tasks ahead before and after graduation.

Prof.Godwin Onu (The Rector of the Moment) pays condolence to Sen.Chukwumerije's Family.

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Professor Godwin Onu (Rector of the Moment) few days ago, paid condolence to the family of late Senator Uche Chukwumerije at his Isuochi family home. The Rector expressed his sympathetic grief on the demise of the iconic parliamentarian stating that “DEATH” was not a friendly phenomenon since it could not spare his friend (Senator Chukwumerije) at a time the nation needed him most. He also eulogized the late Senator’s adorable attributes and accomplishments both in Nigeria and beyond. He further advised the son, Chaka Chukwumerije never to be incomprehensible to the foot prints of his late father. The former INEC Chairman, Professor Maurice Iwu also condoled with the family along side with the Rector.
